Strata building diagnostics experts in Sydney share more common problems with flat roofing

Last week our strata remedial consultancy in Sydney shared some of most common problems with a flat roof. And this week we have 3 more reasons your flat roof may need to be repaired or replaced.

Cracking and bubbling: Aging asphalt can lose its elasticity, causing it to crack and bubble, similar to alligator skin. Unfortunately this means your asphalt flat roof has deteriorated past the point of no return, and will need replacement.

Buckling membrane: Flat asphalt roofing is made up of a membrane soaked in asphalt, which is then laid across the top of the build to make the roof. Over time the roof can shift, with excessive movement causing buckles in the asphalt membrane. This signals the end of a flat roof’s life. A roof that is buckling is not safe to live under and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Cracks – Flat roofing tend to have more exerted pressure and sometimes this pressure can build up. If the pressure and stress become excessive, it can cause your roof to crack. In the event that your roof does crack, you should call our building assessment team immediately. A crack in the roof is often a sign that your roof is structurally compromised and may need to be replaced.
